Patris Corde, an Apostolic Letter written by Pope Francis, celebrates the life of St. Joseph and the 150th Anniversary of the proclamation of St. Jospeh as patron of The Universal Church.

As a meditation on the life of St. Joseph, Patris Corde commemorates him as a beloved, tender, obedient, courageous, and faithful foster father to Our Lord and, as such, an example to all fathers.

Scripture does not record one word spoken by St. Joseph, but calls him a “righteous man.” God chose him to raise the Child Jesus. Joseph is the patron saint of carpenters, fathers (including foster fathers and adoptive fathers), and is the patron of the Universal Church as proclaimed by Pope Pius IX.
