Have you ever been falsely accused and felt you did nothing to deserve the blame? In today’s Gospel, one criminal rebuked another, saying, “Have you no fear of God, for you are subject to the same condemnation? And indeed, we have been condemned justly…but this man has done nothing criminal.” What reaction do you have when faced with false accusations? Anger? Denial? Frustration? Hopelessness? Acceptance? In this Gospel, Jesus and the redeemed criminal provide a great example of how to handle adversity when a situation hits you hard.
Jesus was nearing the end of His time here on earth, yet He focused on saving one more soul before reuniting with the Father. This selfless act shows us that regardless of life’s circumstances, there will always be someone there to help us through. That Someone is Jesus Christ. The redeemed criminal knew he would be together with Jesus in heaven because of His words. Then he spent time in sacred silence, letting the love and mercy of God wash over him.
When do we experience sacred silence? We see several examples within the Mass. During the Penitential Act, we silently acknowledge our sins. Immediately after that, the Priest says, “Let us pray,” and the momentary silence serves as a doorway for us to speak to the Lord and for Him to fill us with His love and mercy. After the homily, we also take a moment of silence. I always ask the Lord to fill my heart and soul with the wisdom from the Gospel and the priest’s words.
Do you experience sacred silence in your daily life? How does it feel within you, and how do you accept it? Another example that comes to mind is sitting with Jesus in Adoration. When I spend an hour in silence it fills me with love, understanding, and a genuine connection with Him. I realize, though, that many times I miss the opportunity for silence and quickly move on to the next action I need to take.
Sacred silence is there when I realize that Jesus is always present, no matter what. He wants to tell me it will be alright, and to rely on Him and His will. It is when our hearts are united with His in a moment of pure love and there’s a peace that fills us. We cannot go wrong when we choose to spend time in sacred silence.
¿Alguna vez has sido acusado falsamente y has sentido que no hiciste nada para merecer la culpa? En el Evangelio de hoy, un criminal reprendió a otro, diciendo: “¿Ni siquiera temes tú a Dios, estando en el mismo suplicio? Nosotros justamente recibimos el pago de lo que hicimos. Pero éste ningún mal ha hecho”. ¿Cuál es tu reacción ante acusaciones falsas? ¿Ira? ¿Negación? ¿Frustración? ¿Desesperanza? ¿Aceptación? En este Evangelio, Jesús y el criminal redimido ofrecen un gran ejemplo de cómo manejar la adversidad cuando una situación te golpea duramente.
Jesús se acercaba al final de su tiempo en la tierra, pero se centró en salvar un alma más antes de reunirse con el Padre. Este acto desinteresado nos muestra que, independientemente de las circunstancias de la vida, siempre habrá alguien ahí para ayudarnos. Ese Alguien es Jesucristo. El criminal redimido sabía que estaría con Jesús en el cielo gracias a sus palabras. Luego, pasó un tiempo en silencio sagrado, dejando que el amor y la misericordia de Dios lo llenara.
¿Cuándo experimentamos el silencio sagrado? Vemos varios ejemplos en la Misa. Durante el Acto Penitencial, reconocemos en silencio nuestros pecados. Inmediatamente después, el sacerdote dice: “Oremos”, y ese momento de silencio nos sirve de puerta para hablar con el Señor y para que Él nos llene de su amor y misericordia. Después de la homilía, también hacemos un momento de silencio. Siempre le pido al Señor que llene mi corazón y mi alma con la sabiduría del Evangelio y las palabras del sacerdote.
¿Experimentas el silencio sagrado en tu vida diaria? ¿Cómo te sientes y cómo lo aceptas? Otro ejemplo que me viene a la mente es sentarme con Jesús en Adoración. Cuando paso una hora en silencio, me llena de amor, comprensión y una conexión genuina con Él. Sin embargo, me doy cuenta de que muchas veces pierdo la oportunidad de guardar silencio y rápidamente paso a la siguiente acción que debo realizar.
El silencio sagrado está ahí cuando me doy cuenta de que Jesús siempre está presente, pase lo que pase. Él quiere decirme que todo estará bien y que confíe en Él y en su voluntad. Es cuando nuestros corazones se unen al suyo en un momento de puro amor y una paz que nos llena. No podemos equivocarnos si elegimos pasar tiempo en silencio sagrado.
