Kibeho is a small Rwandan village where three school girls reported experiencing visions of the Blessed Mother beginning on November 28, 1981, at a time of increasing tension between the Tutsi and Hutu groups. The most intense apparition included an apocalyptic vision of Rwanda descending into violence and hatred which many believe foretold the 1994 Rwandan genocide.⁣

The visionaries reported seeing a beautiful woman, with skin neither white nor black, wearing a seamless white garment and a veil of sky blue, floating in a field of flowers, some wilting and some blooming. They came to realize the flowers symbolized human beings whose faith is flourishing or fading. As souls turn back to God the field of flowers blooms and expands. ⁣

Our Lady, who identified herself as “Mother of the Word,” urged everyone to pray to prevent a terrible war and taught the visionaries how to pray the rosary of Seven Sorrows, which is a reminder to help our hearts to feel the thirst to change and to be constantly converted. She desired that the whole world learn of the rosary of seven sorrows and to pray it as a means to inspire powerful inner conversion.⁣

Like other approved apparitions, the message of Our Lady of Kibeho is one of prayer and repentance. May the desire to turn from our sin and toward God be an ever-present force guiding our thoughts and actions. Our Lady of Kibeho, pray for us. ⁣
