The beauty of marriage lies in looking beyond our own desires and loving our spouse truly and deeply. I’ve found that this comes more naturally to those whose marriages are centered on faith and trust. After my husband and I completed St. Maximilian Kolbe’s Consecration to the Immaculate on the Feast of the Queenship of Mary, we saw how Mary is inextricably woven into our hearts through the Holy Trinity.
Pope Pius XII established the feast of the Queenship of Mary in 1954, later moving it to August 22 to better align with the Feast of the Assumption. In his encyclical, “Ad Caeli Reginam,” he reflects on Mary’s role as the Mother of God, her intercessory power in Jesus’ redemptive work, and her perfection.
The Litany of Loreto highlights many of Mary’s titles, such as Mother of Mercy, Seat of Wisdom, Ark of the Covenant, Mirror of Justice, Health of the Sick, and Refuge of Sinners. Mary reigns as the Queen of Angels, Prophets, Apostles, Martyrs, Virgins, Saints, Families, and Peace.
The Immaculate Virgin enjoys a sublime relationship with each member of the Holy Trinity. She is the Father’s beloved daughter and handmaid, the Son’s loving mother, and the Holy Spirit’s inseparable spouse. St. Maximilian says, “The union between the Holy Spirit and Mary His Spouse is so perfect and inexpressibly close that the Holy Spirit acts only through Her and never without Her.” As we remain open to the Holy Spirit we allow a beautiful connection to be created with His Immaculate spouse as well.
Having Jesus as King and Mary our Queen, we trust that “kindness and truth shall meet; justice and peace shall kiss” (Psalm 85:11). Today, our humble Queen is exalted, her close union with the Holy Trinity is recognized, and like a true mother, she will gently guide us through life’s sorrows to our eternal joy in paradise.
Let us pray:
O Mary, Queen of Heaven and Earth, on this feast day of your Queenship, we come before you with hearts full of love and devotion. You who were chosen by God to be the Mother of His Son, and who now reign at His side in glory, look upon us, your children, with compassion and grace. You are the Queen of all creation, the Mother of the Church, and our intercessor before the throne of the Lamb. On this day, we acknowledge your exalted position and offer you our love, gratitude, and allegiance. Help us, dear Mother, to follow your example of humility, obedience, and love. Guide us in our journey of faith, and intercede for us in our times of need. May your Queenship remind us of the dignity and honor of being children of God, called to share in His kingdom. O Mary, Queen of Heaven and Earth, pray for us now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
La belleza del matrimonio reside en mirar más allá de nuestros propios deseos y amar a nuestro cónyuge de manera verdadera y profunda. San Maximiliano afirma: “La unión entre el Espíritu Santo y María, su Esposa, es tan perfecta e inefablemente estrecha que el Espíritu Santo actúa únicamente a través de Ella y nunca sin Ella”. Al mantenernos abiertos al Espíritu Santo, permitimos que se forje también una hermosa conexión con su Inmaculada Esposa.
Teniendo a Jesús como Rey y a María como nuestra Reina, confiamos en que “la misericordia y la verdad se encontrarán; la justicia y la paz se besarán” (Salmo 85,11). Hoy, nuestra humilde Reina es exaltada; se reconoce su estrecha unión con la Santísima Trinidad y, como verdadera madre, nos guiará con ternura a través de las penas de la vida hacia nuestra alegría eterna en el paraíso.
Oremos: Oh María, Reina del Cielo y de la Tierra, en este día de la Memoria de Nuestra Señora María Reina, nos presentamos ante ti con el corazón colmado de amor y devoción. Tú, que fuiste elegida por Dios para ser la Madre de Su Hijo, y que ahora reinas a Su lado en la gloria, míranos a nosotros, tus hijos, con compasión y gracia. Tú eres la Reina de toda la creación, la Madre de la Iglesia y nuestra intercesora ante el trono del Cordero. En este día, reconocemos tu excelsa dignidad y te ofrecemos nuestro amor, nuestra gratitud y nuestra lealtad. Ayúdanos, querida Madre, a seguir tu ejemplo de humildad, obediencia y amor.
