Anchor Us Lord / Sujétanos Señor

My kids and I often listen to David Suchet’s reading of the Jesus Storybook Bible, written by Sally Lloyd Jones. It is a classic that I highly encourage families of young children to check out. I think by far my favorite story in this precious collection is of Jesus calming the storm. At one point, Suchet re-tells the story of the Apostles’ despair as the storm is raging around them. They cry out in exasperation, “Don’t you care?” And Suchet simply follows, “Of course Jesus cared.” 

It is such a simple yet soothing point. Even for myself as an adult, I reflect on Suchet’s rendition over and over in my head. So many times we doubt and can’t begin to understand why we have trials and tribulations. But Jesus is always there, ready to anchor us.  We must always recognize that all nature and time will obey Him. Let us stand in awe today as the Apostles did, remembering His marvelous works.

Mis hijos y yo a menudo escuchamos a David Suchet leer la Jesus Storybook Bible (Biblia del libro de historias de Jesús), escrita por Sally Lloyd Jones. Es un clásico que recomiendo encarecidamente a las familias con niños pequeños. Creo que mi historia favorita de esta preciosa colección es la de Jesús calmando la tormenta. En un momento, Suchet vuelve a contar la historia de la desesperación de los Apóstoles mientras la tormenta los rodea. Ellos gritan desesperados: “¿No te importa?” Y Suchet simplemente dice: “Por supuesto que a Jesús le importaba”.

Es un punto tan simple pero calmante. Incluso para mí como adulto, reflexiono sobre la interpretación de Suchet una y otra vez en mi cabeza. Muchas veces dudamos y no podemos empezar a entender por qué tenemos pruebas y tribulaciones. Pero Jesús siempre está ahí, listo para anclarnos. Siempre debemos reconocer que toda la naturaleza y el tiempo le obedece. Quedémonos asombrados hoy, igual que los Apóstoles, recordando Sus obras maravillosas.
