At first glance it may seem like Jesus was being a bit harsh with the Pharisees when they asked for a sign. Most people need a little evidence to help their faith from time to time.
The thing is, Jesus was providing signs from heaven on a daily basis: healing scores of people, preaching with unprecedented wisdom, and, in the passage immediately before this one, feeding thousands of people with a small amount of food. There’s no way they could have missed the signs Jesus did, or at least they must have heard reports of His signs.
The Pharisees wanted a sign on their terms, how and when they wanted it, rather than appreciating the gracious signs God had already given them through Jesus. How often do we do the same thing? Do we think God is uncaring because He doesn’t answer our prayers on our terms or that He’s not listening because He does His will instead of ours?
Today, my prayer is that we all are able to open our eyes to see the signs God is already giving us.
A primera vista, puede parecer que Jesús estaba siendo un poco duro con los fariseos cuando le pidieron una señal. La mayoría de las personas necesitan un poco de evidencia para ayudar a su fe de vez en cuando.
La cosa es que Jesús estaba proporcionando señales del cielo todos los días: sanando a decenas de personas, predicando con una sabiduría sin precedentes y, en el pasaje inmediatamente anterior a este, alimentando a miles de personas con una pequeña cantidad de comida. No hay forma de que no hayan visto las señales que hizo Jesús, o al menos deben haber escuchado informes de Sus señales.
Los fariseos querían una señal según sus términos, cómo y cuándo la querían, en lugar de apreciar las señales de gracia que Dios ya les había dado a través de Jesús. ¿Con qué frecuencia hacemos lo mismo? ¿Creemos que Dios es indiferente porque no responde nuestras oraciones en nuestros términos o que no nos escucha porque hace su voluntad en lugar de la nuestra?
Hoy, mi oración es que todos podamos abrir los ojos para ver las señales que Dios ya nos está dando.
