Do you ever look at the state of the world and shake your head in dismay and wonder if this isn’t a good time for Jesus to return when will it be? All around we see the effects of not believing in God and his Word. Yet Jesus reminds us that “the kingdom of God is among you.”
This is the tension we live with in our faith. The kingdom of God is here now and yet, is to come. We do not need to look at each new natural disaster or plummet into moral depravity and say, “Yes, that is the one that breaks us and now Jesus will return.” As faith-filled believers, instead, we look to God, to the Truth, to the Word, and realize that remaining faith-filled in Word and deed is how we bring about the kingdom when it seems like we have lost.
We can hold onto this faith because of Wisdom. The first reading tells us that wisdom passes into holy souls and produces friends of God; that it overcomes wickedness, and reaches from end to end. There is our hope!
The Psalm reminds us, “Your word is forever, Lord.” We do not need to fear the world. We have the LORD with us. We can rely on him and all that he has taught and given us to remain faithful. Today Jesus reminds us that he and by extension, we, will suffer and be rejected because of faith. However, we still keep this faith, out of love. But it is not a faith of sunshine and rainbows, instead, we rely on Wisdom to understand, value, and hold on to our faith no matter what comes to us from the world.
Does it seem impossible? Read the first reading again and ask God for those attributes of Wisdom you need to deepen your faith and be a light to others. That is how the kingdom of God grows and flourishes, through those of us who ask for what we need in order to share what we have with the world.
¿Alguna vez miras el estado del mundo y sacudes la cabeza con consternación y te preguntas si este no sería buen momento para que Jesús regrese? Y si no ahora, ¿cuándo? A nuestro alrededor vemos los efectos de no creer en Dios y su Palabra. Sin embargo, Jesús nos recuerda que “el Reino de Dios ya está entre ustedes”.
Esta es la tensión con la que vivimos en nuestra fe. El Reino de Dios está aquí ahora y, sin embargo, está por venir. No tenemos que mirar cada nuevo desastre natural o caer en la depravación moral y decir: “Sí, ese es el que nos quebranta y ahora Jesús regresará”. Como creyentes llenos de fe, en cambio, miramos a Dios, a la Verdad, a la Palabra, y nos damos cuenta de que permanecer llenos de fe en palabra y obra es la forma que traemos el Reino cuando parece que lo hemos perdido.
Podemos aferrarnos a esta fe debido a la Sabiduría. La primera lectura nos dice que la sabiduría pasa a las almas santas y produce amigos de Dios; que vence la maldad, y alcanza de un extremo a otro. ¡Ahí está nuestra esperanza!
El Salmo nos recuerda: “Tu palabra, Señor, es eterna”. No tenemos que temer al mundo. Tenemos al Señor con nosotros. Podemos confiar en él y en todo lo que nos ha enseñado y dado para permanecer fieles. Hoy Jesús nos recuerda que él y por extensión nosotros, sufriremos y seremos rechazados por causa de la fe. Sin embargo, todavía mantenemos esta fe, por amor. Pero no es una fe de sol y arcoíris, sino que confiamos en la Sabiduría para entender, valorar y aferrarnos a nuestra fe sin importar lo que nos venga del mundo.
¿Parece imposible? Vuelve a leer la primera lectura y pídele a Dios esos atributos de Sabiduría que necesitas para profundizar tu fe y ser luz para los demás. Así crece y florece el reino de Dios, a través de quienes pedimos lo que necesitamos para compartir lo que tenemos con el mundo.
