In this passage, Jesus is clear: life in Heaven will not be like life on Earth. How easy is it to get caught up in making God fit into our “box” versus seeking to expand our minds to love, think and behave more like Christ? Jesus shows us the way to God the Father, and to open our minds to do the loving will of God and not follow our selfish desires.
As parents, we can spend a lot of time explaining the wonders of this world and how things work to our young children. Yet their minds can’t grasp the concepts, so they need to trust that we are speaking the truth and someday they will understand. The same is true with us and Christ. He wants us to see the reality of Heaven and what is of value in eternal life, versus limiting ourselves to the things of this earth which are passing away. Worldly success, fame, money and power do not ultimately satisfy us now and will have no value when we pass on to the next life.
In this Gospel, Jesus tells us that as children of God, we will not need marriage “The children of this age marry and remarry; but those who are deemed worthy to attain to the coming age and to the resurrection of the dead neither marry nor are given in marriage. They can no longer die, for they are like angels; and they are the children of God because they are the ones who will rise.”
As Christians, it is so beautiful to think that peace, love, and the joy of Heaven will consume us, and we will be totally fulfilled. “Even marriage, one of the most sacred of human institutions, will fall away in the newness of heaven, where the love we practiced on earth will be caught up into a higher love, bringing our longing for union with God and one another to its utter fulfillment.” (Fr. Our faith is the path to Heaven and the roadmap for our lives. We need to live out our faith in our heart, words, and actions and share it with others. By doing so, God has promised that we will live forever with Him and experience total fulfillment. The Lord desires to impart to us His wisdom, peace, and love so that we can begin to experience eternal life in this age. God wants us to live out our faith wherever He has planted us, so that we can be a light to those struggling to find Him.
En este pasaje, Jesús es claro: la vida en el Cielo no será como la vida en la Tierra. ¿Qué tan fácil es quedar atrapado en hacer que Dios encaje en nuestra “cajita” en lugar de buscar expandir nuestras mentes para amar, pensar y comportarnos más como Cristo? Jesús nos muestra el camino a Dios Padre y a abrir la mente para hacer la voluntad amorosa de Dios y no seguir nuestros deseos egoístas.
Como padres de familia, podemos pasar mucho tiempo explicando las maravillas de este mundo y cómo funcionan las cosas a nuestros hijos pequeños. Sin embargo, sus mentes no pueden captar los conceptos, por lo que necesitan confiar en que estamos diciendo la verdad y algún día lo entenderán. Lo mismo es cierto entre Cristo y nosotros. Quiere que veamos la realidad del Cielo y lo que tiene valor en la vida eterna, en lugar de limitarnos a las cosas pasajeras de esta tierra. El éxito mundano, la fama, el dinero y el poder no nos satisfacerán ahora y no tendrán ningún valor cuando pasemos a la próxima vida.
En este Evangelio, Jesús nos dice que como hijos de Dios, no necesitaremos el matrimonio “En esta vida, hombres y mujeres se casan, pero en la vida futura, los que sean juzgados dignos de ella y de la resurrección de los muertos, no se casarán ni podrán ya morir, porque serán como los ángeles e hijos de Dios, pues él los habrá resucitado.”
Como cristianos, es tan hermoso pensar que la paz, el amor y el gozo del Cielo nos consumirán y estaremos totalmente realizados. “Incluso el matrimonio, una de las instituciones humanas más sagradas, se desvanecerá en la novedad del cielo, donde el amor que practicábamos en la tierra será arrebatado a un amor superior, llevando nuestro anhelo de unión con Dios y entre nosotros a su plenitud”. Nuestra fe es el camino al Cielo y el mapa para nuestras vidas. Tenemos que vivir la fe dentro del corazón, con nuestras palabras y acciones y compartirla con los demás. Al hacerlo, Dios ha prometido que viviremos para siempre con Él y experimentaremos una plenitud total. El Señor desea impartirnos Su sabiduría, paz y amor para que podamos comenzar a experimentar la vida eterna desde ahora. Dios quiere que vivamos nuestra fe dondequiera que nos haya puesto, para que podamos ser una luz para aquellos que luchan por encontrarlo.
