Jesus’ words in Mark 7:6-8 are particularly applicable today. We live in a time where the sounds of man are abundant. On any news channel or media outlet we are accosted with what man says we should believe or not believe. The world is noisy. The voices are loud and as we know from the book of Kings, God’s voice is a still, small one (1 Kings 19:11-12).
Jesus reminds the scribes and Pharisees of Isaiah’s prophecy of people worshiping God in vain and teaching the ideas of men as doctrine. We see this today in the redefinition of marriage, the false gender fluidity ideology, and the many Catholics who are pro-choice. These beliefs are not only of men but of the evil one.
God has taught us differently but his voice is drowned out in the cacophony. How do we hear this quiet voice speaking truth and love? We have to be intentional about turning away and turning off. Our smartphones can be a great and helpful tool but also a noisy box of distraction. We need to put them away, turn off the TV and radio, and be present to the voice of our Father who very much wants to share his plans of goodness for us.
Be ok with the quiet. Enjoy the silence and be restored by the Word of God.
Las palabras de Jesús en Marcos 7,6-8 son particularmente aplicables hoy. Vivimos en una época donde los sonidos del hombre abundan. En cualquier canal de noticias o medio de comunicación nos abordan lo que el hombre dice que debemos creer o no creer. El mundo es ruidoso. Las voces son fuertes y, como sabemos por el libro de Reyes, la voz de Dios es suave y delicada (1 Reyes 19,11-12).
Jesús recuerda a los escribas y fariseos la profecía de Isaías sobre la gente que adora a Dios en vano y enseña las ideas de los hombres como doctrina. Vemos esto hoy en la redefinición del matrimonio, la falsa ideología de la fluidez de género y los muchos católicos que están a favor del derecho a decidir en cuanto al aborto. Estas creencias no son sólo de los hombres sino del maligno.
Dios nos ha enseñado diferente pero su voz se ahoga en la cacofonía. ¿Cómo escuchamos esta voz suave que habla verdad y amor? Tenemos que ser intencionales al dar la vuelta y apagar los aparatos. Nuestros teléfonos pueden ser una herramienta excelente y útil, pero también una ruidosa caja de distracción. Hay que dejarlos a un lado, apagar la televisión y la radio y estar presentes a la voz de nuestro Padre que tiene muchas ganas de compartir sus planes de bondad para con nosotros.
